Jay Mezzell, 41, passed from this life on Monday, March 18, 2013. His services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater, and private services will be held at a later date.
Jay was born on May 26, 1971 in Baytown, TX to Thomas Mezzell and Joyce Harlen Mezzell. He was a 1989 graduate of Ross Sterling High School. Following graduation, Jay enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, NE where Jay served as an I.T. specialist. While in the Air Force, he attended Bellevue University, where he received a bachelors degree in Business Administration. After 10 years of service, Jay was honorably discharged from the Air Force. Jay stayed in the Omaha, NE area and began a career in SCADA Systems for Northern Natural Gas.
In 2005, Jay met the love of his life, Dana Christensen, while country line dancing. In 2006, Jay and Dana welcomed their first child, Kendal Mezzell. In 2007, Jay and Dana were married in New Orleans, LA and in 2008; they welcomed Jackson Mezzell to their family. In 2011, the family relocated to Stillwater and Jay began working with Blue Knight Energy Partners in Cushing. Jay enjoyed his job and made many good friends while at Blue Knight.
When he was not working, Jay could be found building and restoring furniture and other wooden relics. He loved to golf, listen to music, dance, play softball, ride his motorcycle, and bowl. He was never happier than when he was surrounded by his family, especially his children. Jay was a calm and attentive man who possessed a quiet strength. He had a positive and friendly demeanor and was always making new friends. He enjoyed poking fun at his friends and family and he never passed up an opportunity to make someone laugh. Jays smile could light up a room and could brighten even the darkest of days. Jays life was centered around his family and he considered them to be his greatest accomplishment. He packed more life into his 41 short years than most people would get out of 100 years. Jay Mezzell was a loyal husband, a proud father, a loving son, a dependable brother, a dedicated employee, and a reliable friend. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, but his presence will live on through the legacy of kindness and compassion that he has left behind.
Jay is survived by his wife Dana, of the home. 3 sons: Jackson Mezzell, and Tylor Guesman of Stillwater, OK and Cameron Mezzell of Ralston, NE.
