JB Red, 89, of Stillwater passed from this life on May 23, 2015 at his home with his family by his side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater and a service celebrating his life will be held at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home chapel on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 2pm . Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 8am to 8pm and the family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday evening. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8am to 2pm.
JB Red was born on Dec 16, 1925 to Walter E. Red and Lona Mae (White) Red. He graduated from high school in Kilgore, TX and quickly enlisted in the US Army. He served his country during WWII and was stationed with the 86th Black Hawk Division where he excelled as a sharpshooter and truck driver and also ran the motor pool. Following his honorable discharge as a Corporal, JB returned home where he met and married the love of his life, Mary Dahlhauser in 1948.
JB enrolled at LSU where he would go on to earn a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He spent the next 70+ years working the oilfields in the central and southwest United States and Russia. He was employed with U.S. Smelting, Continental Oil, and Conoco Phillips for many years. He was the co-founder and vice president of the Ketal Oil Producing Company and the OK Oil Well Cementing Company before ultimately beginning his own production company, KOPCO Inc. JB loved his work and remained actively involved in the oil industry until the day he passed away. He was a member of the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association, American Petroleum Institute, and he was a 50 year member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He was also a contributor to the Kilgore Oil Museum where he and his father Walter Booger Red are recognized for their accomplishments and support.
JB Red was a hard working man who loved to work and play. He collected many toys over the years such as antique cars and tractors, houseboats, sailboats, and an airplane. When he wasnt at the lake fishing, he could be found on the golf course or watching various OSU athletic events. He was also a generous supporter of the Republican Party.
JB Red was a generous and honest family man. He always had an optimistic outlook on life and he loved playing practical jokes on his friends and family. He was truly a one of a kind and his smile and friendly demeanor will be missed by all who knew him.
JB was preceded in death by his parents Walter E. Red and Lona Mae Red, son Lonnie Red, brother in law Terry Bierbaum and nephew Kyle Bierbaum. He is survived by his wife Mary H. Red of the home. Three children: Walter Red and wife Barbara of Stillwater, Don A. Red of Stillwater, and Rose Ann Red of Stillwater. Daughter in law Debbie Red. Six grandchildren: Gary McCollum and wife Shannon, Linda Peniston and husband Shane, Jonathan Walker Red, Patricia M. Red, Joe Red, and Nicholas Red. He is also survived by four great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in JBs name to the Disabled American Veterans or Good Shephard Hospice.
