Jennifer Mona Benson was born on July 16, 1974 in Bartlesville, OK to Lonnie Harold Benson and Patty Ann (Davis) Benson. She was raised in Wann, OK and graduated from Oklahoma Union High School in South Coffeyville, OK in 1992. Later that year she married the love of her life, John Lazenby at Wann First Baptist Church.
In 1997, Jennifer graduated from OSU with a Bachelors Degree in Education while pregnant with her fourth child. Jennifer and John would go on to raise 7 children during their 24 wonderful years together. Their teaching careers took them to Drummond, Cyril, Chattanooga, Agra, Cement, and finally to Glencoe., where she has served as the title 1 reading teacher and John served as school superintendant since 2008.
Jennifer was a selfless woman who possessed a quiet strength. She was loyal and reliable and always had an encouraging word or sound advice for her friends and family. She always put the needs of others before her own and she dedicated her life to nurturing her children, as well as the children she was entrusted to teach each day at school.
Those who knew her best knew that her two priorities were her faith and her family. As a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Glencoe, Jennifer strived to share her profound love for Christ by teaching the elementary Sunday school class for several years. She also enjoyed listening to contemporary Christian worship, a preference she shared with her daughter Chelsea.
She loved to be surrounded by her family and she cherished the days she got to spend with them at school. She also loved to bake her kids birthday cakes and make special slide shows with the many pictures they took together. Jennifer was a loving and supportive mother who was proud to be labeled a basketball mom.She quietly but proudly cheered on her kids and often served as the score and stat keeper for their different teams. Jennifers dedication to her family was inspiring . Even during the difficult days that she struggled with her health issues, her concern was always for John, her children and her grandchildren. She often remarked that she was ready and excited to meet the Lord, but wished she didnt have to leave her family to do so.
The Lazenby family takes comfort in knowing that Jennifer has finally realized the promise of heaven, that they will see her again, and that her legacy of uncompromised integrity and unconditional love will live on through the lives of her children, grandchildren and the countless students she has impacted over the course of her career.
