James Jim Irvin McLaughlin, a Stillwater resident, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in the Mercy Hospital, Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 70 years.
Memorial services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater and will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 22, 2014 in the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel, Stillwater, OK.
The son of the late William James McLaughlin and Evelyn Rose (Elrod) McLaughlin, Jim was born in Guthrie, OK on March 20, 1943. He was reared and educated in Orlando, OK, graduating from Orlando High School in 1961. Jim attended O.S.U. where he was a member of the ROTC before transferring to Central State University in Edmond where he earned a Bachelor in Arts awarded August of 1971.
On December 29, 1974, Jim was united in marriage to Dorothy Jo Fansler in Perry, OK and to this union one daughter, Melissa, was born. They made their first home in Perry before moving to Stillwater in 1991. Jim worked various jobs in and around Perry which included being the assistant manager for the Bestyet Grocery, a Noble county Sheriff Deputy, working at Charles Machine Works Ditch Witch, and working in the oilfield. Jim also worked for over 20 years for the O.S.U. Vet Med School before retiring on May 1, 2008 as a custodial foreman.
In his spare time Jim loved traveling to car shows and was a member of the Cimarron Starlite Cruisers Car Club in Perkins. He loved going to watch his two grand-daughters play t-ball, basketball and softball. Jim always rewarded his two grand-daughters with ice cream (his favorite) and chocolates for excellent grades and champion game wins. He also was an avid fan of all O.S.U sports but especially loved Cowboy Baseball. He was a member and former office holder of the Payne County Historical Society. He enjoyed being a member of the Single Action Shooting Society as Bail Jumper and participating in reenactments. Jim also enjoyed researching his familys genealogy, studying history, garage sales, and educating all of his family and friends about the historic Pistol Pete (A.K.A. Frank Eaton).
Survivors include his wife Dorothy of the home; one daughter, Melissa Morse and her husband Philip of Glencoe, OK; one brother, William Bill McLaughlin and his wife Joan of Edmond; one sister, Dorothy Resneder of Mulhall; two grandchildren, Ashley Morse and Katy Morse of Glencoe; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by one sister, Lucie Boyle.
