Jimmie Paul Choplin, age 88, passed away January 15, 2023, in Tulsa. Viewing will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023, from 9am to 8pm at Dighton Marler Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2023, at the Glencoe United Methodist Church with burial following at the Glencoe South Cemetery.

 

Jimmie was born to Devert and Geneva Choplin on December 4, 1934, at Butler, Oklahoma. He graduated from Butler High School in 1952 and started technical school at Oklahoma A&M College (Oklahoma State University). It was there that he met Joyce, the love of his life. They married December 5, 1954, at the Merritt Church near Elk City, Oklahoma and just celebrated 68 years of marriage.

 

Jimmie worked on the family farm for a few years before moving to Bethany where he worked as a machinist. He served in the Army Reserves and was called into active duty in 1961 working in helicopter maintenance at Fort Rucker, Alabama and the Atlanta General Depot. After his discharge from the Army, he and his family moved to a farm he had purchased near Glencoe. It was then that he started his own machine shop located on Main Street in Glencoe. In later years, he also worked as a maintenance supervisor for Swan Hose Company and in the maintenance department at Mercury Marine.

 

Jimmie was a founding member of the Glencoe Volunteer Fire Department, retiring after 20 years of service. He was an active member of the Glencoe United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Education for Glencoe Public Schools.

 

Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, brother Curtis, sister Virginia Fancher and husband Gary, and son Mark.

 

He is survived by his wife Joyce; daughter Paula Shryock; daughter-in-law Debbie Choplin; grandchildren Jennifer Schudel and husband Greg, Stephanie Rogers and fiancé John Van Nortwick, Ryan Choplin and husband Zack O’Brien, Kristi Choplin and partner James Slater; great-grandchildren Levi and Ethan Schudel, Logan and Alex Rogers; sister-in-law Jean Choplin; brother Troy and wife Belinda; nieces and nephews.

 

Donations can be made to the Glencoe United Methodist Church Food Pantry. Funeral service will be livestreamed on Paula Shryock’s Facebook page.
