Jimmie F. Watkins, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on December 2, 2024, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at the age of 85. Born on September 22, 1939, in Elk City, Oklahoma, Jim lived a life marked by dedication, faith, and service to his community.
Jim graduated from Chickasha High School in 1957 and soon after honored his commitment to his country by serving in the National Guard. His journey into adulthood led him to marry Carolyn Sutterfield on February 2, 1963, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Jim and Carolyn shared many wonderful years together before her passing, and their bond profoundly influenced the lives of their family.
Professionally, Jim was a dedicated computer programmer who embraced the ever-changing advancements of technology. Alongside his work in programming, he was a passionate evangelist and pastor, spreading messages of hope, faith, and love to many throughout his life. His impact on those around him is remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jim’s legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Saxton; his son, Jon Watkins, and his wife, Kelly; as well as his cherished grandchildren: Nathaniel Saxton, Meagan Massad and her husband, Ted, Nichole Saxton, Michael Saxton and his wife, Alex, Sterling Watkins and his wife, Victoria, Winston Watkins, and Grace Watkins. In addition, he leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Solomon Saxton, Zander Massad, and Izaak Massad. Jim is also survived by his brother, Larry Watkins, and his wife, Sue.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Watkins (Sutterfield), and his parents, Francis Watkins and Geneva (Darnell) Watkins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on December 7, 2024, at Dighton Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater. The service will begin at 10:00 AM, allowing loved ones to gather and share their memories of a man who touched so many lives with his kindness, strength, and unwavering faith.
Jimmie F. Watkins will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
