Jimmie Wayne Jameson, 83, of Stillwater, passed away at his home on January 18, 2024. Jimmie was born May 8, 1940, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Samuel Jasper "Pete" and Ider Lee (Coulter) Jameson. Jimmie's interest in civil engineering began with a part-time job at a local engineering firm while attending Altus High School. After graduation in 1958, Jimmie worked on large engineering projects around the state of Oklahoma including Kerr-McGee's plutonium fuels production plant in Crescent and the 105-mile Indian Nation Turnpike (SH-375) running between Hugo and Henryetta. He later settled in McAlester and established his own land surveying business, Jameson & Associates.
In 1973, the Oklahoma State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors awarded Jimmie a license as Professional Land Surveyor. He joined the McAlester office of McCoy-Mecklenburg & Associates (MM&A) and in 1975, relocated the family to establish MM&A's Stillwater office. In 1978, Jimmie was appointed Payne County Surveyor, a part-time position he held while continuing to provide registered land surveyor services via Jameson & Associates.
In October 1987, Jimmie joined the City of Stillwater Public Works Engineering division as a land surveyor. After 21 years of service, he retired in April 2008. In 2003, Stillwater Mayor Larry Brown proclaimed February 17th as the "Jimmie Jameson Day of Heroism." On this day, Jimmie administered a life-saving Heimlich maneuver when he noticed his co-worker was choking during lunch. He also received a Life Saving Award from Stillwater Red Cross. Over the years, he was a member of the Moose and Elks lodges. Jimmie loved wildlife, NASCAR, the Dallas Cowboys, crossword puzzles, and watching reruns of Gunsmoke and M*A*S*H.
Jimmie is survived by his sons, Dennis Jameson and spouse LaDawna; John Jameson and spouse Aracelly (Marina); daughters, Vicki Jameson, Kimberly Young, Trudy Simank, and Pamela Silverthorn; and grandchildren Dustin Jameson, Shelby Feuerborn, Karly McMillin, Amelia Akhtarmanesh, and Marisa Simank; eight great-grandchildren; plus many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn June Jameson; five brothers, Melvin, Elzie, Roy, Sam and Bobby; two sisters, Edna Baker and Estlee Howland, and several nieces and nephews.
