Joan Traver Barrick

Joan Traver Barrick, 85, of Stillwater went to be with her Lord on March 16, 2016. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and a service celebrating her life will be held at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home chapel on Saturday, March 26th at 10am.
Joan was born on August 8, 1930. The middle daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Clarence Traver of Albany, New York, she graduated from Milne High School in Albany, New York, and attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
In 1949 she married Richard Vernon Barrick of Blackwell, Oklahoma, son of Dr. and Mrs. Roy Barrick. She and Richard had four children: Michael Roy, Daniel Richard, Susan Joan and James Traver. Mike, Dan and Susan all graduated from Morrison High School and Oklahoma State University. Jim passed away in October 1978.
They lived on a farm northeast of Stillwater and had a commercial egg business in the 1960s. She volunteered and had many different offices in different organizations. Joan taught the first Morrison Kindergarten and then taught 4th Grade for the Stillwater public school system at Lincoln School and then 7th Grade Science at Middle School for a total of 20 years. She completed her Doctorate of Education degree at Oklahoma State University. After retiring she taught English to Speakers of Other Languages at night school. Joan was a member of Sunnybrook Christian Church in Stillwater and enjoyed attending Wednesday morning bible studies. She moved into Brentwood Park Estates in 2002 and lived there until her death.
Joan will be remembered as a loving and generous mother, grandmother and friend. She was a lifelong learner and found great joy in helping her family and friends pursue their educational goals. She had a strong faith in God and helped a lot of people through her selfless giving. She is survived by her son Mike and wife Mary Nicholas Barrick of Holdenville, son Dan and wife Cindy Leigh Barrick of Morrison, Susan Seales and her husband John M. Seales of Ponca City, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joans name to Global Compassion Foundation in care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home 5106 N. Washington, Stillwater, OK 74075.
