Joe Sappington, 83, passed from this life on Sept 28, 2016. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and a graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 2:30pm at the Glencoe IOOF Cemetery on Yost Rd. Public visitation will be held on Monday October 3 from 8am to 8pm at the funeral home.
Joseph L. Sappington was born on April 18, 1933 in Morrison, OK to Albert A. and Maggie A. (King) Sappington. He moved to Hood River, OR when he was 10 yrs old and attended middle school and high school there. While in Oregon, Joe worked as a logger, gas station manager, fruit packer, and saw mill employee. In August of 1952 he married the love of his life, Anna Lou Bailey. Joe and Anna Lou would have three children and many wonderful years together before her passing in 1981.
In the early 1960s the family relocated to Chandler, OK where Joe went to work as a tractor mechanic at Lincoln County Ford. In 1976, the family moved to Stillwater and Joe was employed as a tractor mechanic for several years with F&H Ford Tractor. Several years later he opened Joes Tractor Shop in Cushing, later opening a shop in Perry with the same name. Being a busy business owner didnt stop Joe for making time for his family. He loved to support his kids in their endeavors and he spent several years coaching his sons baseball team in Stillwater and Chandler.
Joe finally retired in 2008 at the age of 75. Retirement offered Joe the ability to enjoy his lifelong hobbies of hunting, fishing, working on more tractors, and attending garage sales. Joe Sappington was a loving father and grandfather and he will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Anna Lou, eight siblings, and two grandchildren: Michael Leonard and Tiffany Johnson. He is survived by his three kids: Debbie Leonard and husband Robert of Wellston; Julie Johnson and husband Jerry of Chandler; Bobby Sappington of Glencoe. Three siblings: Chuck Sappington and wife Verla of Manteca, CA; Ada Jane Leonard and husband Dick of Hood River, OR; Sharon Savage of Federal Way, WA. 10 grandkids: Sheryl Clay husband Alex, Kathy Leonard, Annette Leonard, Robert Leonard Jr. and wife Kathy, Darrin Hicks and Tonya, Crystal Johnson-Grubbs and husband Scott, Jason Johnson and wife Nikko, Shelby Johnson and James Fernandez, Rachael Sappington, and Eric Maytubby. He is also survived by 17 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren
