John Cook, Jr. passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023, in Stillwater after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. He was 85 years old. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.
John was born July 24, 1937, in Stillwater to David Ancell “John” Cook, Sr., and Emma Allie (Stoneburner) Cook.
Growing up John enjoyed playing baseball, bowling, and fishing. He was a well-known newsboy and delivered newspapers during World War II. He was in the Navy during the Korean War and was a Gunner’s Mate, First Class. After 6 years in the Navy, he was honorably discharged after having been knocked overboard from the battleship Columbus and tread water for 12 hours. After leaving the Navy, John married Victoria Day on March 8, 1963. John worked thereafter in heavy construction with Flintco for over 22 years. He helped to build many Tulsa landmarks such as the Bank of Oklahoma Tower and Williams Center in Downtown Tulsa, Driller’s Stadium, St. Francis Hospital and many other buildings.
John is preceded in death by his parents John and Emma, his brothers Troy, Wesley, Ralph, and Paul; and his sisters Geraldine, Bessie, Fern, Elsa, Aline, Dortha, and Imogene. John is survived by his Wife Victoria. They were married 60 years. His daughter, Erin and Son-in-law Les Lovitt of Bixby, Ok; and his son, Jeffrey Cook of Jennings, Ok. He is also survived by many other extended relatives and friends. John loved his family and friends and loved to chat and joke around. He never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2PM Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the Glencoe IOOF South Cemetery with Bobby Garringer officiating.
