Dr. John D. Jones, 93, a Stillwater resident, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at his home. Palmer Marler Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Stillwater at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010 with Dr. Stan Warfield presiding. Internment will follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
John was born in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma on July 2, 1917 to John Marion and Ora M. (McGuire) Jones. He attended high school in Bokchito, Oklahoma, and attended Murray State College and Oklahoma State University, where he received his Doctorate in 1975. He served in the United States Army during World War II earning the American Defense Medal, the EAME Theater Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal while serving as a Staff Sergeant. After the war, he married the love of his life Doris (Hamilton) on August 12, 1946 in Headrick, Oklahoma. John worked as an agriculture teacher in Elgin, OK from 1948 to 1968 and later served as southwest district supervisor for vocational agricultural from 1968 to1979 with the Oklahoma State Department of Vocational and Technical Education. He later retired in 1981 after working with Western Oklahoma State College and Cameron University. Dr. Jones was also a member of the First United Methodist Church.
John is survived by his wife Doris, of the home; sons Christopher Kyle Jones of Perkins, Kevin Dee Jones of Stillwater, and Kennedy Patrick Jones of Stillwater; sister Elva Cole of Lincoln, CA; two grandchildren, Tiana Jones and Clay Jones; and a host of friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lowell and Glen; and four sisters, Ruby, Ruth, Gladys, and Willie Nell.
