John "Jack" Squier Crellin

John Squier “Jack” Crellin a twelve year resident of Perkins, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.
A Celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at Cimarron Valley Church in Perkins. Pastor Paul Dawson will officiate. Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Jack was born June 27, 1928 in Coleridge, NE, the 2nd of three children, to L.D. “Pete” and Myrtle (Squier) Crellin.
He served in the US Navy at the end of WWII and was honorable discharged in 1947. He was able to participate in The Honors Flight Program in 2014 with his daughter Becky.
Jack married Viola Mae Graves in Bedford, IA., on September 11, 1949. They were married for 59 years and blessed with two daughters, Jan Russey and Becky Burtrum, seven grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Viola preceded him in death in 2008.
Jack graduated from Iowa State University in 1953 with a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry. He spent the next 31 years between Arizona and New Mexico. His final stop was in Taos, New Mexico where he retired in 1984 as Supervisor of the Carson National Forest.
He loved to travel, fish, hunt, snow ski and most of all horse rides into Forests and Wilderness areas.
Jack moved to Perkins, Oklahoma in 2007 and spent many hours on the Cimarron Trails golf course.
Jack found love again, and on December 30, 2010 he married Carol Smith at Mehan Church. Together they enjoyed vacationing, especially to England, and Scotland. Then, in May 2011, Jack and Carol fulfilled a lifelong dream of his to visit the Isle of Man where his Great-grandfather and family had immigrated from in 1871. They also enjoyed other activities including the dances held at various Senior Citizen Centers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Harrison Crellin; sister, Joan Maurer; and granddaughter in-law, Tina Burtrum.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Crellin of the home; two daughters, Jan Russey (Duane), of Chandler, AZ., and Becky Burtrum of Stillwater, OK.; grandchildren, Carey Russey, Amy Russey, Kelsey Russey, ,Clay Burtrum, Cady Roberts (Kris), Kelly Burtrum (Nicole), and John Burtrum (Deana), Matt Smith, Angie Robbins (Denny), Zach Smith, Kelsi Smith, Sam Smith, T.J. Abney; great-grandchildren, Presley Geng (Robert), Trenton Russey, Chase and Storm Neclario, and Wyatt Bernal, Karly Burtrum, Kinzie Burtrum, Avery Burtrum, Dylan Roberts, Brooklan Roberts, Kinzlie Walls, Jace Walls, Kyle Collins, Allix Burtrum,Taylor Burtrum, Joe Burtrum, Evie Burtrum, Lance Smith, Michael Rush, Carson Wolf, Hunter Robbins, Peyton Robbins, and great-great-grandchild, Jaxson Rush. Also, Carol’s children who Jack considered a part of his family include Jimmy Smith (Julie) of Park Hill, OK., and Karen Smith of Stillwater, OK.
The family would like to pay a special thank you to Karman Legacy Hospice and a special friend and caregiver, Nita Moore for all of the devoted time and care given to Jack during his last days.
