John Joseph Wilkinson, Sr., 83, passed away on June 1, 2018 at his home in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 4-7pm at Dighton Marler Funeral Home Chapel, Rosary will follow at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 9, at 11:00a.m. at St. John University Parish. Dighton Marler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
John was born on April 18, 1935 in Omaha, Nebraska to Raymond and Cathryn (Horan) Wilkinson. He grew up in Omaha and graduated from Creighton Prep in 1953. He joined the Army and attained the rank of E-5. He married Rose Sughrue on June 20, 1970 at St. Teresa Church in Lincoln, Nebraska.
John worked for the USDA/NRCS as a Contracting Officer. He enjoyed doing yard work and loved spending as much time as he could with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents, one son John Wilkinson, Jr., Sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Al Cawiezel and brother-in-law Wally Closner.
He is survived by his wife Rose, his children Cathy Nieman and husband Roger of Stillwater, OK, Mary Willoughby and husband Jeff of Venus, TX, Joan Meek and husband Patrick of Mansfield, TX, Barbara Kelly and husband Patrick of Carrollton, TX, and his grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew and Elizabeth Nieman, Christopher, Ashleigh and Brynden Meek, Avery Willoughby and Harper Kelly. He is also survived by one sister Beverly (Wilkinson) Closner of Fort. Worth, TX.
Memorial contributions can be made in his name to St. John Catholic Student Center, new building fund c/o Dighton Marler Funeral Home, 5106 N. Washington St., Stillwater, Oklahoma 74075.
