John David Payne

September 8, 1967 — May 14, 2024

Stillwater

John David Payne, 56, of Stillwater, OK, climbed the “Stairway to Heaven” on May 14, 2024. John was born in Tuscan, Arizona on September 8, 1967, to Gerald and Brenda Payne (York).

John and his siblings, Big Lil Sis, Laura Payne of Stillwater, OK, twin brother, Jerry Payne, (Lesli) of Rose, OK, and Lil Sis, Christina Winemiller (Jeff) of Bonner Springs, KS, were very close.  In fact, all four kids worked together at Consumers IGA on Boomer Road back in the late 80’s, along with best friend, Mike Osborn (OZZY).

John graduated from Stillwater High School in 1985. His “Free Falling” lifestyle landed him jobs at Mercury Marine, Exterior Designs Landscaping, National Standard, and the City of Stillwater.

John loved people, music, nature, and his beard & bandanas.  He was a very spirited son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, who will be greatly missed. John left us with wonderful memories to look back on and to move us forward.

John is survived by his mother, siblings, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews and more friends than you could imagine.

He is proceeded in death by his loving father, Jerry Payne, and grandmother, Elsie York.

A private graveside service will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024.  John’s final resting place will be Lanier Cemetery on Lake McMurtry Road. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024. (time, and place will be posted on Facebook)

A special “Thank You” to the Stillwater Police Officers that responded that evening. Your kindness was greatly appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Tiny Paws or the Mission of Hope would be appreciated.

Condolences may be sent to the family via an online guestbook at www.dightonmarler.com.
