John Reubin Gant born August 4, 1920 to Arthur Leotis and Edith Jordon Gant in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. He attended Spring Valley School 1st thru 8th grades, attended Dover High School his freshman year, then moved to Glencoe, Oklahoma in 1937 where he graduated from high school in May 1940.
John married Edythe Katheryn Coe on September 27, 1941 at the Cushing Christian Church. They moved to a farm north of Glencoe, later moving to California, and returning to Stillwater, Oklahoma in July 1951 where they lived until his death on February 28, 2008.
He worked for the Stillwater Public Schools for 18 years, then went to work for the Oklahoma State Department of Vocational and Technical Education for 13 years. Along with his wife, they owned and operated Gants Laundry from August 1956 to May 1983 when they both retired.
He became a member of the Glencoe Church of Christ in July 1937, became of member of the 9th Avenue Christian Church in 1953, and Sunnybrook Christian Church in September 1992 in Stillwater. He enjoyed working, church duties, and wood projects for his daughters and grandchildren.
Survivors includes his wife, Edythe Gant, three daughters and son-in-laws, Marjorie Lynn McAllister and Don of Stockbridge, Georgia, Joy Elaine Sober and Ron of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Anita Sue Rush and Phillip of Ripley, Oklahoma. Grandchildren Konda and Dean Walker of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Dionne Mohammed and Terry of Memphis, Tennessee, Heather Zimmerman and Aaron of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Lacy Sober of Dallas, Texas, Jason Rush and Shalyn of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Shawn Rush of Ripley, Oklahoma. Great-grandchildren, Ross, Reid and Reagan Walker of Bartlesville, and Amirah, Terrence and Christopher Mohammed of Memphis, Tennessee, and Sister-in-Law Gladys Gant of Stillwater, Oklahoma plus several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers Cleo Gant and Roy Gant, a daughter Kathryn Kaye Gant and a grandson Chase McAllister.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 at the Palmer-Marler-Carberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Paul Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Glencoe South Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Palmer-Marler-Carberry Funeral Home. Memorials may be sent to Judith Karman Hospice 915 S.
