Johnnie Edward Devine Sr.

Johnnie Edward Devine, Sr., 79, passed from this life on Sunday, March 17, 2013. Graveside services are under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Pastor Phyllis Brown officiating. A public visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 19 from 12pm-8pm.

Johnnie was born on July 23, 1933 to Warren Edward and Opal Fern Devine in Stillwater. He grew up in the Stillwater area, graduating from Glencoe High School. Following graduation, Johnnie joined the Army where he served honorably during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return from the service, he enrolled at Oklahoma State University and began working as the produce manager for the Humpty Dumpty IGA store in Stillwater. In 1961, Johnnie married Lenora Swisher. Johnnie left Hmpty Dumpty after nearly 15 years and began a career as a carpet installer for Brooners Carpet, a job he enjoyed for nearly 20 years. Following his retirement in the late 1990s, Johnnie lived in Sulphur and Talahina before making his home in Claremore.

Johnnie was an easy going and kind man who enjoyed a good time. He was a member of the Stillwater Moose Lodge. He loved to hunt, fish, garden, and spend time with his boys and their families. He always had a new story for you that was guaranteed to make you smile. He was a dedicated father, a loving grandpa, and a reliable friend and his presence will be missed by all who knew him.

Johnnie is survived by his two sons, Johnnie Devine, Jr. and wife Deana of Stillwater and Kelly Devine and wife Sarah of Perry; four siblings, Edith Fleming and husband Kenneth of Stillwater, Irma Glover and husband Bob of Kansas, Iris Davis of Texas, and Gene Devine of Prague, OK; seven grandchildren, Whitney, Kayla, Tanner, Jessica, Kelley, Tyler, and Nick Devine; as well as several of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Johnnie was preceded in death by a sister Margie Blair.
