Joyce Ann (Morgan) Johnson 81, of Stillwater, Oklahoma died on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at home in Stillwater. Dighton Marler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Joyce was born in Winthrop, Arkansas on January 16, 1939 to Curtis Edward and Mary Mae (Sharp) Morgan. She lived much of her youth in Texarkana, Arkansas and her adult life in Arkansas City, Kansas; Omaha, Nebraska; Texarkana and Stillwater.
Joyce was an Administrative Assistant /Bookkeeper with the last fifteen years of her work life at Oklahoma State University’s College of Human Sciences Cooperative Extension in the Department of Nutritional Sciences.
Joyce sang all her life and often shared stories of standing next to the piano singing while her mother played. In her youth and young adult years she sang primarily in church as a soloist and in choirs. However, in 1972 she found her passion with Sweet Adelines International singing barbershop where she met her life partner of 48 years, Kay McConkey. She was a member of the OK City chorus (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) and competed at international competitions all over the US as well as London. She and Kay began a chorus in Texarkana, Texas which she directed in Regional competitions. Joyce also sang in numerous quartets with Kay.
Joyce is survived by her partner of the home; daughter Lisa and husband Warren Reavis of Leavenworth, Kansas; sons Morgan “Gene“ Stewart of Perkins, Oklahoma and Wynn Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; granddaughter Liane Bastion of Gallatin, Tennessee; brother, Curtis “Buck” Morgan of Texarkana, Texas as well as many extended family members.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Alexander “Alex” Stewart, and sister, Margaret Burgess,
Memorials may be made to the Alzeheimer’s Association or Karmen Legacy Hospice in Stillwater c/o Dighton Marler Funeral Home, 5106 N. Washington St., Stillwater, Oklahoma 74075. A special thank you to the nurses, aides, social workers, and chaplain of Karmen Legacy Hospice as well as Annie, Bri, and Shelbie for their compassionate care of Joyce and her family during the last days of her life.
