Kaye Lynn Lafollette

December 19, 1958 — February 15, 2016

Kaye Lynn LaFollette, Age 57, passed away on February 15, 2016, at her home in Perkins, OK after a lifelong courageous struggle with cerebral palsy. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 19, 2016 at 10:00am at the First United Methodist Church in Perkins with interment following at Perkins Cemetery. Public visitation will be held on Thursday from 12:00pm to 8:00pm with the family greeting guests at the funeral home in Perkins from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday evening.
Kaye was born to Raymond and Eva Lee (Westfall) LaFollette on December 19, 1958, in Stillwater, OK. She lived her entire life in Perkins.
At a few months of age, Kaye was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. With four older brothers, she learned that CP was not accepted as an excuse or defense for anything. She learned to defend herself and speak her mind. She also learned that her opinion was just as important as anyone elses and she wasnt hesitant about voicing it. Though strong-willed, Kaye was compassionate, tenderhearted and deeply loved her family and friends. She always responded with a Thank you to all who assisted her in any way.
Raymond and Eva Lee were very determined that Kaye should receive an education. When she was growing up, she had wonderful home-bound teachers, whom she dearly loved. Later she was able to attend Perkins-Tryon School for a few hours a day, plus had an intercom connected with the school in her home classroom so she could communicate with her teacher. Eva Lee was faithful in making sure Kaye was in attendance every day rain or shine. She eventually graduated from the high school as salutatorian.
When her brothers were still in school and playing sports, Kaye and her parents would go to their games and cheer them on. The boys, especially Dan, taught her about football and would sometimes take her to the local games. She loved watching the games on TV, especially OSU games.
Kaye was blessed with loving parents who devoted themselves to her welfare and made sure that her life was as normal as possible. They were a wonderful caring team in providing care for Kaye all of their lives.
Kaye was surrounded with a large group of loving family members and friends. Friends were just as important to her as her family. It would brighten her day when family and friends would drop in even for a short visit. When her parents began an intense experimental physical therapy program with her, it required five people at a session twice a day five days a week. The Perkins community stepped in and was faithful and dedicated in helping. Without their help and dedication, it would not have been possible. The LaFollette families have tremendous gratitude to all those caring people who sacrificed their time and talents for our sister.
Kaye especially loved the times when her nieces and nephews would visit. They kept her entertained, and she never knew what they were going to say or do next. When they were small, they loved pushing her all around the house in her wheelchair whether she wanted to go or not.
Kaye was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dan; grandparents, Grover and Margaret Westfall, step-grandmother Clara Westfall; grandparents, John and Rose LaFollette; aunts Juanita LaFollette Wilson, Betty Jean Westfall, Nelly June Westfall, Leta Sue Westfall Rusco and Felsa Westfall Hastings; uncles, Chester LaFollette, Eldon LaFollette, Othel Westfall, Morgan Westfall, Ted Westfall, Russell Westfall and Phillip Westfall.
Kaye is survived by her three brothers, J. W. and Diane of Stillwater, Jim and Susan of Mannford and Robert and Aliena of Oklahoma City; twelve nieces and nephews, Steve LaFollette, Mike LaFollette, Scott LaFollette, Krista LaFollette Newcomb, Michelle LaFollette Leach, David LaFollette, Pam LaFollette Reagor, Rob LaFollette, Jr., Farrah LaFollette, Brenda LaFollette Kavian, John LaFollette and James LaFollette, and many family members and friends.
