Kum Cha Dawes

Yi Kum Cha Dawes passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 3, 2021 in Perry, Oklahoma. She was 70. Services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Perry.
Kum Cha was born July 15, 1950 in Tongnae, South Korea to Yi Dong Yi and Kim Keel Cha. She and Jerry Dawes met in early 1978 in a small Korean village of Sam-I, in the (county) Kun Ja-Gun. Miss Yi came to the United States by way of Anchorage, Alaska in March of 1981, and was reunited with Jerry in April of 1981 in El Paso, Texas. The couple was married in El Paso County Courthouse on June 19, 1981 by the Justice of the Peace, Judge Woodrow W. Bean II.
The Dawes couple moved to Perry, Oklahoma in March 1982. Mrs. Dawes worked at Hatie’s Place Café for about a year, then became employed at Perry Jr. High School in July 1983 as custodian. Mrs. Dawes retired from Perry Public Schools as custodian of Perry Upper Elementary School in June of 2015.
Mrs. Dawes was a saved member of Calvary Baptist Church of Perry, Oklahoma since May 2, 1983 where she attended faithfully.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry of the home; stepdaughter, Leah Marie Furman and husband Bill of Stillwater, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Christopher Dean, Tessa Dean, and Logan Furman; one sister, Ok Yong Hee. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Yi Cha Dong; and one sister, Yi Soon Cha.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 9AM to 8PM at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Perry. A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Dawes will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church in Perry with pastor Shem Durham officiating. Cremation services will follow.
