Lance Munson, 69, longtime Stillwater businessman passed away Friday, July 1, 2022 in Tulsa of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Cremation services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.
Lance was born May 21, 1953 in Aurora, Illinois to Leon and Margaret Knowles Munson. The family lived in Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana, moving seven times before finally settling in Stillwater in 1966. Lance attended Stillwater High School, graduating in 1971. Following high school graduation, he attended OSU for a few years.
Lance was known for his salty language and his long and lively stories (some of which were actually true-or partially so). Lance made friends wherever he went. He was honest, hardworking, and funny. He led a non-traditional life and made his own path. He was strongly opinionated, but he had a big heart. His intelligence and independence made him a unique and treasured friend.
He loved being an owner/partner at Cartunes and was very proud to have been the first master installer in Oklahoma. He loved music, antiques, his friends and family, and the feeling of freedom (not to mention the engine’s roar) he experienced when he rode his motorcycle. He loved games of all sorts and excelled at many different kinds of games. We think he cheated sometimes, though. Most of all, Lance loved being a dad!
Survivors include his children, Matthew Munson and Margaret Munson both of the home; step-daughter, Lydia Morton (Terri Doolittle) of Denver, Colorado; step-son, Byron Morton of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sister, Joyce Anne Munson Welsh and brother-in-law, Dave Welsh of Iowa City, IA; niece, Jamie Wright-Sheriff (Scott) of Cedar Park, Texas; other extended family and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by the beloved mother of his children, Tina Sweeny Munson.
An informal gathering to honor Lance’s life will be held on Thursday evening, July 7, 2022 between 4PM and 6:30PM at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater. Everyone is welcome to come share a story, have a beer and Hors D’oeuvres in celebration of a life well lived. Casual attire.
Memorial donations made be made to the MLM Fund that has been established for his children. Please send donations in c/o Dighton-Marler Funeral Home, 5106 N. Washington, Stillwater, OK., 74075.
