Laurence Jefferson Reid

LAURENCE "LARRY" JEFFERSON REID , 71, retired Pa. Department of Corrections, Executive Deputy Secretary (Commissioner), departed this life on Friday, March 19, 2010, at his home in Stillwater OK. He was born in Philadelphia and was the oldest of 3 sons of the late Dumah and Bernetta J. Reid.
Larry attended Northeast High School in Phila., where he participated in Basketball, Swimming and Track. He received his B.A. in Physical Education at West Chester State Teachers College; and in 1972 received a Masters Degree in Social Work Administration from the University of Pennsylvania. From 1959 to 1965, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy (as a medical corpsman) on the U.S.S. Cascade during the Cuban Missile.
Survived by wife, Linda; 2 brothers, Drexel (Katherine) and Jon (Gladys); 6 children, Yvette (Mrs. George) Nelson, Keith (Dora) Reid, Janine (Mrs. David) Baker, Krystal (Mrs. David) Spears, Adrienne (Mrs. Maxwell) Conroy, and Michael (Antoinette) Reid; and 13 grand-children.
Memorial Services will be on Saturday, March 27th, at Tioga United Methodist Church, Phila., at 11 A.M. and on Thursday, April 1st, 2 P.M. at New Covenant Fellowship, Stillwater, Oklahoma.
