Lena Mae Jackson, age 93, went into the arms of her maker on September 29, 2024. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. Lena was born in Langston, Oklahoma on June 6, 1931, to her mother Hettie and father W.B. Cox, and was the youngest of nine children.
For many years, Lena was an active member of Second Baptist Church in Winfield, Kansas, where she sang in the choir. She became an adored cook at Attucks Elementary School in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and later became a successful bank teller in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Lena married the love of her life, Dr. James Andrew Jackson, on June 6, 1950. Together, they shared more than 60 years of marriage and their greatest love, their families. They also raised many farm animals including horses and ostriches. They will be reunited in their final resting place in Winfield, Kansas.
Lena was kind, funny, and forgiving, and made everyone around her feel good. She was also known for her cooking, especially her peach cobbler, sweet potato pie, and greens.
A loving and caring mother, Lena leaves behind a legacy of love in her children, as well as a host of grandchildren great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends. She will truly be truly missed by all who loved her.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Second Baptist Church, 820 E. 6th Avenue, Winfield, Kansas 67156. The arrangements, including flower deliveries, have been entrusted to Dighton-Marler Funeral Home. Please send flowers to either Dighton Marler Funeral Home by Friday or the Second Baptist Church on Saturday morning.
