Lequita Roselle Ennis, surrounded by her loving family, left this life to be with her mother, sister and son on February 23, 2023 at OU Medical Center In Oklahoma City. A resident of Perry, she was 87-years-old. Dighton-Marler Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Lequita was born September 4, 1935, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Vivian Deplene Burgess and Louise Gregg Burgess. She grew up primarily in Oklahoma City, but also lived at Venice Beach, California and Caney, Oklahoma. She was a 1953 graduate of Northeast High School in Oklahoma City and attended the University of Oklahoma, majoring in business administration. She was employed as a secretary for the federal government working for the Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Department of Defense at Tinker Field, State Board of Education, State Health Department, and retired from the US Department of Agriculture in Perry.
She married Billie Gene Ennis on August 31, 1956, in Oklahoma City. She is the mother of four children: Michael Eugene Ennis, twin daughters Lenita Louise Kennedy and Lejuana Susan Tennyson, and the late William Curtis Ennis.
The family moved to Perry in May 1972. Lequita was a member of the Happy Homemakers Extension group and enjoyed sewing and crafts. She belonged to Eastern Star, Amaranth, and attended the Nazarene and Assembly of God Churches. She enjoyed genealogy and spent many hours researching family histories. Lequita was an avid reader, a fan of college sports, and loved her vegetable and flower gardens. She and her husband Bill were members of the Christian Motorcycle Association and enjoyed travel. She was a cancer survivor. Lequita was also a businesswoman, owning the Highland Motel, Pawn Shop and Motorcycle Accessories, Highland Storage Units as well as a downtown building.
Lequita will be remembered for her sense of humor, her guidance and generosity, and the love she showed for her family.
She is survived by her husband Bill, of the home; three children and their spouses: Michael and Amie Ennis of Killeen, Texas, Lenita and David Kennedy of Perry, Oklahoma, Lejuana and Ron Tennyson of Octavia, Oklahoma; six grandchildren: Whitney Evan Ennis, Amanda Rose Kennedy Jones and husband Cameron, Mica Autumn Ennis, Stephen Michael Kennedy and wife Lana, David Christopher Tennyson and wife Jennifer and Patrick Steven Tennyson; and eight great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law Diane Koch Ennis, and several cousins including Gloria Brown of Perry.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, William Curtis Ennis; and a sister, Laura Lee Hallman.
The family has asked memorials to be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society, in care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home, PO Box 189, Perry, Oklahoma 73077.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Perry. Rev. Brett Nation will officiate.
