Doug Swanson, 72, passed away on August 17, 2023, at his home in Stillwater. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at 11AM at Dighton Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Garden Cemetery.
Doug was born on September 12, 1950, in Kane, PA to Carl and Sara Swanson. Doug attended the University of Pittsburgh and then moved to Tulsa to attend Spartan School of Aeronautics where he graduated with his pilot’s license and worked as a flight instructor for a period of time. He worked for many different industries such as Saied Music in Tulsa, Tulsa Firearms, Charles Machine Work (Ditch Witch), Precision Boring and Swanson Underground Construction.
Doug served as a Deacon at First Presbyterian in Stillwater and most recently found a spiritual community at First United Methodist Church of Stillwater. He was previously active in the Payne County Animal Response Team, a Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, a competitive shooter and participated in the Bianchi Cup, and coached his son’s baseball team. He was a family man and loved his dogs, and enjoyed woodworking, golfing, and cars.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Amy Beth.
He is survived by his life partner, Debbie Traugott; Son, Stuart Swanson (Lisa); Sister, Beck Vasgaard (Scott) of NC; grandchildren, Jada Swanson, Landen Swanson; nieces, Jori and Kristen (Curtis); nephews, Ira, Kevin (Kappa), and Christopher; his sister-in-law, Lori Taylor of SC; aunt, Marian Silvis of PA; his beloved dog, Tessa and a multitude of Friends and cousins.
