Linda Gail Shimanek

Linda Gail Shimanek, age 81, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on July 18, 2022, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid, Oklahoma.

She was born on August 13, 1940 in Covington, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Glen and Edith (Christman) Avery. She graduated in 1958 from Covington High School in Covington, Oklahoma. Linda met the love of her life, Bernie Shimanek, of 36 years. They were united in marriage on April 3, 1986 at the St. Frances Catholic Church. Linda had eight children she cherished deeply.

Linda was a very dedicated hard working person that would do whatever it took to get the job done. She was the driving force for when Bernie ran for county commissioner of Garfield County. Linda was the manager of the convenience store in Covington, she later worked as a custodian for the Covington and Enid public schools. While working she enjoyed getting to know and meeting all walks of life. Linda was known as a good singer who would sing on the radio from time to time. Linda enjoyed spending time with her family every chance she got. For all 20 of her grandchildren she had a song for each one of them. Some of her hobbies were reading, and dancing.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Eldon Avery, Dennis Avery; and son-in-law Chuck Mangion.

Linda is survived by her loving husband of the home Bernie; eight children, Lance Brzowski and wife Glynda of Louisiana, Shelly Mangion of Chandler, OK, John Brzowski and wife Roxanna of Edmond, OK, Chris Brzowski and wife Juli of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, Renee Settlemires and husband David of Enid OK, Craig Shimanek and wife Melissa of Arlington, TX, Mike Shimanek and wife Judith of Ark City, KS, Curtis Shimanek and wife Kelli of Enid, OK; one brother Loren Avery of Enid, OK, two sisters Anetta Bartlett of Dalles, TX, and Diana Scott of Grand Junction, CO; 20 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Dighton-Marler Funeral Home Chapel, 203 Fir St., Perry, OK 73077. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2022, at McGuire Cemetery in Lucien, OK, with Pastor Tommy Donaldson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Linda's name to the St. Jude's in care of Dighton Marler Funeral Home P.O. Box 189, Perry, OK 73077.
