Linda Kay (Hindes) Elsom was born on August 7, 1945 in Port Arthur, Texas to Ernest Alkire Hindes and Mary Catherine (Hort) Hindes. She spent most of her early years in west Texas until arriving in Alvord, Texas where she met and married Billy Fred Elsom in 1963. They moved to Oklahoma upon Bill finishing his doctorate degree in 1969 and they made Stillwater and Perkins their home.
Linda graduated OSU in 1979 with her B.S. in Elementary Education and went on to attend OU for her masters in counseling. After Bill passed away in 1986, Linda opened the Recovery Corner bookstore, specializing in substance abuse literature, and held AA and OA meetings in her spare room. She enjoyed helping others, whether it was through her career until retirement in 2004, or just as often in personal capacity.
Linda was actively involved in several churches over the years, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school in First Baptist in Perkins, teaching Sunday school in Hillcrest Baptist in Stillwater, and attending services and bible study for the last several years at Abundant Life UPC in Stillwater. She found incredible joy and peace through her bible study and was always ready to exchange knowledge with others. She was always eager to offer help, whether it was spiritual, monetary, an ear to listen, or a home cooked meal.
She was a very dedicated mother of two children Brenda Elsom Maxwell and Steven Elsom. She sacrificed time and dollar to give them both, and often their friends, everything from transportation to support in academic and artistic endeavors at all levels. This dedication and love carried over even more so for her grandchildren. Her unconditional love of her family was one of her most defining attributes.
We draw peace knowing that she was totally prepared to depart this world and knew with certainty and joy that she would be reunited with all the loved and cherished friends and family that had gone before her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but we take solace knowing that she is with Jesus now, walking down the streets of gold in the heavenly hereafter, celebrating her savior's incredible life on earth in the hallowed halls.
She follows her husband Bill, father Ernest Hindes, mother Mary Hindes, her in-laws Fred and Nannie Belle Elsom and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bob and Verna Elsom. She is survived by her daughter Brenda Elsom Maxwell and her husband Troy, her son Steven Elsom and wife Crystal and her grandsons David and Jakob Elsom, her brother Raymond Hindes of Chesapeake, VA., brother Jon Hindes of Sand Springs and brother Chris Hindes of Odessa, TX.
Her memorial will be held on February 28, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Abundant Life UPC at 410 S. Berry St. in Stillwater. We would be honored to have all who would celebrate her incredible life attend.
