Linden Burrus Lindy Wilson, 86, died on August 12, 2013 at his home in Stillwater, Oklahoma after a long illness. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Palmer Marler Chapel in Stillwater . Interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Garden, south of Stillwater. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from noon to 8 p.m.
Lindy was born December 21, 1926 in Walnut Grove, MO. He was the son of John Burrus Buck Wilson and Sarah Katherine (Combs) Wilson. He grew up in Winslow, AZ, but due to his fathers military service ended up attending high school in California, Corpus Christi, TX, Springfield, MO, and Stillwater, OK where he graduated. He lettered in football and basketball at each of the four schools. Lindy served in both World War II and the Korean War attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. His career included management positions with Phillips Petroleum, Chrysler Corporations, Swan Rubber and Oklahoma State Department of Vo-Tech, primarily in the role of warehousing. Lindy finished his college education mid-career with a Bachelor Science in Physics and Higher Mathematics at Southeast Missouri State University.
He was a long time member of Stillwater Elks Lodge until age and illness made active membership too difficult.
Lindy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 52 years , Lenna Wilson, and his stepson, Gary Gallagher of Edmond, Oklahoma; He is additionally survived by four grandchildren, Danielle Keogh and husband Web, of Edmond, Trevor Viljoen of Oklahoma City, Derek Viljoen of Edmond, and Stephen Viljoen and his wife Annie, of Edmond; and cousin Julie Stacy and husband Bill, of Springfield, MO.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Judith Karman Hospice in care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, 5106 North Washington, Stillwater, OK 74075.
