Lola Mae Pogue, 86, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016 in Perkins, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater. Funeral services will be held at Mehan Union Church on Saturday, January 16 at 2:00pm with Larry Eslinger officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Ripley, OK. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 15 from 8:00am to 8:00pm at the funeral home. The family will greet guest at the funeral home from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday evening.
Lola was born March 30, 1929 to Dewey and Emmer (Shankles) Marler in Teresita, OK in Cherokee County where she grew up and attended school.
She married Raymond Lee Eslinger June 24, 1946 in Tahlequah, OK. They moved to Kansas and lived several years. To this union two children were born; Larry Eslinger and Donna Eslinger. He preceded her in death December 16, 1954 in Wichita, KS.
She married Riley Red Pogue on November 21, 1956 in Wellington, KS. They moved to Tucson, Arizona. To this union two children were born; Steven Pogue and Gloria Pogue. They moved back to Oklahoma in 1963, where she worked with her husband at their family plumbing business Pogue City Plumbing. Lola also spent 5 years working with the Kinzie family restaurants and she spent several years working in home healthcare before retiring. Red Pogue died January 15, 1998.
Anyone who knew Lola knew her two loves were her family and her faith. She was very proud of her children and she loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved hosting holiday meals at her home and watching the grandkids swim and explore the Pogue Farm.
Lolas faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a faithful member of the Church of God in Ripley and Mehan Union Church. She served the Lord and her community through her involvement in the churchs clothing ministry and by delivering meals to elderly residents of Payne County. She also enjoyed studying her Bible, was an active member of her churchs quilting group, and Cushing Senior Citizens Center. Lola also enjoyed cooking, gardening, line dancing, cleaning her home, and spending time with her special friend Tom Smith.
She was greeted in heaven by her parents, Dewey and Emmer Marler, and step-father Charlie Harless; husbands, Raymond Lee Eslinger and Levi Riley Red Pogue; one son, Steven Pogue; and her siblings, Charles Dean Marler, Calvin Marler, Earl Dean Marler, Eli Marler, Rosette Huntsman, Joyce Steele, Howard Marler, Kathleen Forrest, Jeraline Scott.
She is survived by three children, Larry Eslinger and his wife, Lee Ann of Stillwater, OK, Donna Kirk and her husband, David of Woodward, OK, Gloria Short and her husband, Steve of Stillwater, OK; a step-daughter Linda Kenney of Wichita, KS; 15 grandchildren: Chris Kirk and wife Dana, Cary Kirk and wife Shirley, Sarah (Eslinger)Cazzele and husband Zac, Matthew Eslinger, Joshua Eslinger, Rebekah (Eslinger)Somers and husband Tim, Anna Eslinger, Naomi Eslinger, Amber Lane, Brooklyn Lane and Chase, Hailey Short, Jeremy Kenney and wife Amanda, Calleen Green, Gary Short and Becky and Kelli Hake and Jeff. 17 great grandchildren: Kyler, Luke, Brody, Lily, Gus, Daylynn, Addy, Derek, Ryan, Lauren, Isaac, Abigail, Dustin, Hunter, Brooklyn, Gage, and Gracie. Siblings: Robert Marler and wife Delores, and Pat Gunderson; two sisters-in-law: Fern Pogue and Mary Pogue Vogl. Lola is also survived by her very special friend Tom Smith, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other friends.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Lolas name to the Mehan Union Church Building Fund.
