Lonnie Red was born on November 19, 1950 in Delhi, LA to JB and Mary (Dahlhauser) Red. He grew up and attended school in Shawnee, OK. Following high school, he opened a paint and body shop in Shawnee. Several years later, Lonnie relocated to Norman, OK where he worked as an auto mechanic and also built Harley Davidson motorcycles. In 1975, while living in Norman, Lonnie was introduced to Debbie Mays by a mutual friend. In early 1981, Lonnie and Debbie moved to Stillwater and on June 6, 1981, they were married. Lonnie opened his own oilfield machine shop where he worked until 1990 when his family moved to Tulsa. Lonnie owned and operated his own machine shop for over 20 years in the Tulsa area. In 2011, Lonnie and Debbie moved back to Stillwater to be closer to their family.
Lonnies life revolved around two things: spending time with his family and building and piloting drag race motorcycles. He competed in both gas and fuel racing circuits and he won Top Gas at the Truett & Osborn race in Kansas and he placed several times in fuel class. When not racing or piloting bikes, he enjoyed building and crashing model airplanes. He also enjoyed boating, water skiing, and snow skiing.
Lonnie Red was a gentle soul who was always available to help out a friend in time of need. He was independent and charted his own course. He was as soft hearted as he was hard headed and there was no mistaking where you stood with Lonnie. Lonnie was a caring husband, a hard worker, and a loyal friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and he is survived by his wife of 32 years, Debbie, of the home. Parents: JB and Mary Red of Stillwater. Brothers: Walter Red and wife Barbara, of Stillwater and Don Allen Red of Stillwater. A sister: Rose Ann Red of Stillwater. Nieces: Patricia Red and Linda Penniston.
