Lyle “Blake” Coe, 93, was born November 1, 1930, on the family farm north of Glencoe, Oklahoma, the son of DeWitt Coe and Edna (Broyles) Coe. He passed away the morning of July 12, 2024, at the Green Valley Nursing Home in Perry, Oklahoma. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dighton-Marler Funeral Home, Perry, Oklahoma.

Blake grew up in the Glencoe area, attended Whitehall Schools as a youth and graduated from Glencoe High School in 1948. He was working road construction when the Korean War broke out. Not wanting to be drafted, Blake enlisted in the United States Army and served two and a half years in Germany during the conflict. After the war, Blake enrolled at Pueblo College, Pueblo, Colorado, majoring in telegraphy and accounting. He went to work for the Atchison Topeka-Santa Fe Railroad as a telegraph operator and was employed by the railroad for 37 years, retiring 11/1/1990 at age 60.

Blake loved to fish, hunt with his son, Lyle, dance, and was an avid gardener. His favorite country artists were Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, Hank Thompson, The Lone Chimney Band and other local artists. He loved to eat his wife’s good cooking and liked every dish placed in front of him. He belonged to the Elk’s Lodge and a Noble County hunting group at one time.

On May 25, 1979, he married Ethel D. Groom, who survives. They were married by Noble County Judge Paul Cress at the Noble County Courthouse where Ethel was employed at the time. They were married over 45 years and enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and dancing. Hosting ice cream socials for various Democrat groups was also one of their favorite things to do. They often frequented various senior citizen centers on live music nights and had their own table and seat designations at the Community Center in Morrison, Oklahoma, which was their favorite dance spot.

Other survivors include his son and daughters: Lyle Blake Coe Jr. and wife Anita, Susan (Coe) Garner and husband Randy, Alesa (Coe) Bocox and husband Bobby, and stepdaughter Cheryl (Groom) Brassfield and husband John; grandchildren: Shannon Cross, Jason Brassfield, Tyler Garner, Lindsey Coe, Alex Coe, Jennifer Bocox and Matthew Garner; and nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
