Marilynn Knott

August 30, 1947 — January 15, 2025

Oklahoma City

Marilynn Knott was born on August 30th, 1947 in Stillwater, OK to Carl Warner Knott and Helen Phillips Knott. She graduated high school in Orlando, OK in 1965 and then attended Phillips University in Enid, OK and graduated with a bachelor’s in 1969.

After working for Payne County DHS for a time, she moved to Colorado and earned her master’s degree at the University of Colorado.

Marilynn then worked in the DHS State Office for many years and retired as the Supervisor of the Policy and Planning Department in 2004.

After retirement, she served as a lay minister for Crown Heights Christian Church for many years in Oklahoma City.

Marilynn was an Advocate for Social Justice serving in leadership positions for the Oklahoma Coalition to end the death penalty and most recently she has been an advocate for the Poor People’s Campaign in Oklahoma.

For years, she sang in her church choir, took trips to Europe with her fellow choir members and was a Sunday School Teacher.  Marilynn also wrote and published a book titled, “Houses Divided.”  She loved to research the history behind our family genealogy and even visited different areas of the country to discover even more.

All of Marilynn’s nieces and nephews, all the way through great-greats, will agree that Aunt Marilynn was the most generous, loving and kind aunt we could ever ask for! Some of our fondest memories are of Aunt Marilynn’s Annual Christmas Party that she hosted in her home every December until the family outgrew her space.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Helen Knott, brother-in-law Bill Harshman, and sister-in-law Nell Knott, niece Sheryl Ann Knott, step-nephews, C.L. Kittle and Russell Kittle, and step-nieces Debbie Stokes and Terri Prince. And great niece Kristy Stokes.

She is survived by one brother, Erwin Ned Knott, one sister, Karlanne Harshman, nephews, Richard Harshman, David (Angela) Knott, Daniel (Sheryl) Knott, Dennis (Lisa) Knott and Donald (Lana) Knott, nieces, Judith Brower and Billee (Jaramie) Karcher.
