Marjorie was born on July 1, 1924 in Oklahoma City to Leo Anthony Wilkowski and Elizabeth Ann Baker. She was raised on the outskirts of Oklahoma City in a small Polish community. She did not learn to speak English until she started attending Star Elementary School. She left home at the age of 14 and moved in with the Wenzel McGee family and went to work in a local drug store while attending Northeast High School. Following her graduation, Marjorie went to work as a Rosie the Riveter for Douglas Aircraft during the war. After several years with Douglas Aircraft, she left to pursue a nursing degree at St. Anthonys Nursing School, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1946. In 1945, while attending nursing school in Oklahoma City, she met a young chiropractor, Davis Fuquay Black. After 10 years of courtship, Davis finally convinced Marjorie to be his wife. A year later, they relocated to Stillwater, where Davis founded the Black Chiropractic Clinic and Marjorie became a homemaker, raising the couples two children, Jeff and Brenda.
Marjorie attended Sunnybrook Christian Church for several years and later became an active member of Countryside Baptist Church. She was a charter Member of the Stillwater Pioneer Booster Club and also supported OSU Athletics. Marjorie loved to bowl, cook, garden and travel. She was a talented artist specializing in stained glass, and oil paintings. She enjoyed doing ceramics and was also a gifted seamstress and created many of the uniforms that Brendas cheer and dance teams would wear and she was the go to person for all her grandchildrens sewing needs.
Marjorie Black was a loving, caring, and compassionate woman who unselfishly gave of her time and money to help a friend in need. She was always the life of the party and enjoyed entertaining those around her. She was a consummate encourager who never spoke badly of others and always put others needs before her own. She was a dedicated grandmother and rarely missed any of her grandchildrens functions. Marjorie was a loving mother, a loyal wife, a protective sister, and a trusted friend. Her legacy of caring will continue through the lives of those she has touched and she will be deeply missed by those lucky enough to consider her a friend.
