Marvin Ray Elliott

June 25, 1956 — November 12, 2021

Marvin Ray Elliott, age 65, of Perry, gained his wings on Friday November 12, 2021, circled by his loving family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Perry.
Marvin was born on June 25, 1956, and was adopted by his parents, Alden and Hazel (Jackson) Elliott. He was proud and grateful of his parents adopting him and raising him in a Godly home. In his high school years, he loved to play basketball and football; for only being 6’1” he could dunk the ball. He attended and graduated from Covington-Douglas High School in 1974. He was a Jack of all trades including being a welder for many years. Later in life he went back to school and became a drafter shortly after his youngest daughter was born.
Throughout his life he had a multitude of ups and downs and eventually came back to God and the church, just like his mother always said he would. This led to his calling of becoming a Celebrate Recovery minister and starting a CR chapter in Perry, Ok. He provided faithful support and leadership to the Christ-centered recovery ministry and wrote a regular column about recovery for the local newspaper. He also accomplished writing a book about his life-journey. Marvin was known for his loving and accepting attitude and his desire to see others find peace and serenity in their own lives.
Marvin enjoyed sports and especially loved cheering for the New York Yankees and Oklahoma Sooners. He loved music and played accordion, piano, and guitar. During his younger years he played lead guitar in a band called Maxx High. He and Phil, a fellow band member, actually wrote and performed some original songs during this time. His most prized and treasured moments were spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his children Donovan Elliott, Ashley Elliott, and Santana Keller and her husband Jeremy, all of Perry, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his nephew Matthew Goodwin and his grandchildren he loved and admired, Serenity, Kaden, Adler, and Paizley. Marvin is also survived by a multitude of friends and his faith-family that he referred to as his forever family.
He is preceded in death by parents, Alden and Hazel Elliott; sister, Marvellee Goodwin and brother-in-law, Ray Goodwin.
A Celebration of Marvin’s Life will take place on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 10 am. Due to remodeling at the First Church of the Nazarene services will be held at the Perry Assembly of God, 401 RJ Rutherford Road, Perry, Oklahoma with Pastor Steve Smith and Rob Schmutz officiating.
Marvin was ill for several months which depleted his resources, so the family is accepting gifts in his honor to help defray the funeral costs. Donations can be made at Dighton Marler Funeral Home in Perry or Stillwater, or on GoFundMe, https://gofund.me/0dad7b6b In lieu of flowers the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the Perry Celebrate Recovery Ministry, Perry First Church of the Nazarene, 829 Jackson Street, Perry, Oklahoma 73077. Donations can also be left at the church or funeral home.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Traditions Hospice and other health care workers who have cared for Marvin during his fight against cancer for their care and compassion. Condolences may be sent to the family via an online guestbook at www.dightonmarler.com or https://marvinelliott.com.
