Mary Ann Vitek, 80, of Stillwater passed peacefully from this life on July 4, 2014 with her family at her side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater and a service celebrating Mary's life will be held at 1:00pm on Wed July 9, 2014 at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater with burial taking place at Fairlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 8am to 8pm.
Mary Ann was born on June 6, 1934 in Moore, OK to Frank and Marie (Miskovsky) Kalsu. She grew up and attended schools in Moore, graduating from Moore High School in 1952. Following high school, Mary spent several years working at Browns Bakery in the South OKC area. While attending a dance in 1957, Mary Ann met and began dating a farmer from Stillwater, OK, Gene Vitek. In November of 1959 Gene convinced Mary Ann to be his wife and she relocated to the Vitek family farm in Northern Payne County, where she would spend the next 53 years of her life. Mary Ann gave birth to her daughter Mary Gene in 1960 and her son David Alan n 1961. She spent her life as a homemaker and a farmers wife. Mary Ann handled the domestic duties of the farm and spent many years as the caretaker for Gene's aging parents. She was well-known for being a good cook and always left her family satisfied.
She was an easy going woman who enjoyed canning, cross-stitching, and spending time outside in her garden. Mary Ann had a love for polka music and dancing and was a member of the #1 Oklahoma Polka Club based out of Enid, OK. She was a generous woman who loved to help her friends and neighbors when they were in need. Mary Ann was wonderful wife and a supportive mother who was always there for her children. She was always there to help her daughter Mary Gene any way she could and she could always be found at her bedside during her most difficult times. Mary Ann Vitek was a kind and loving lady who will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charlie, Milton and Frank Kalsu.; and a nephew Robert Kalsu. She is survived by her best friend and husband of 54 years, Gene Vitek. Two children: Mary Gene and David Vitek, both of Stillwater, as well as several nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
