Mary Louise “Marylou or Lou” Walker, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on November 8, 2022. Marylou was born to Helen “Mitzi” and James Elwood Goeringer in Philadelphia, PA. on October 24, 1930.
Marylou went to school at Oklahoma A&M where she met her loving husband, Billy Gene Walker and in 1950 started their large family of 6 children (1 stillborn). Her children include John (Kathi), James (Rana), Patricia (Roscoe) Wisler, Pamela, Jeffrey (Shirl).
Marylou became certified in construction and worked hard her whole life raising her children and adopted family members, fostered children, hosting every holiday meal, managing and supervising many construction projects, and attending to her yard, ponds, and loving animals.
Her loving nature and motherly ways led to 10 grandchildren: Sunny (Nate Archer), Jeff (Kelli Hake), Terri, Heather Foster (Winston), Desirae Wisler, Alex, Steven Wisler (Stephanie), Davin Weaver (Sarah), Eric, Jennifer (Grayson) Orr. As a grandmother she maintained a neutral territory for family amidst a clean and welcoming household. She participated in all our holiday ski trips and skied better than many of the younger family members.
Marylou was a remarkable woman as an active volunteer at her Catholic parish, St. John’s, leading the Thanksgiving dinner with her large family, welcoming the new priests, lecturing and being a eucharistic minister throughout the years. She was a substitute teacher, worked in a bakery, was a bookkeeper, co-founder of Birthright with her mother, boarding many people throughout her lifetime, and worked as a realtor alongside her brother, Elwood “Woody” Goeringer, and as house mother for Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.
Everyone will remember Lou as a kind, loving, energetic, enthusiastic, compassionate and accepting optimist that she was. Marylou is survived by her 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sister Linda (John) Rowell, sister Patricia (Jerry) Shea, sister in-law Rene Goeringer, 10 nieces and nephews, and many more friends, family, and adopted family including, but certainly not limited to Linda Clair, Marilyn O’Hara, Joseph and Laurence Richardson, and all her Alpha Gamma Rho boys.
The family would like to thank Traditions Health especially Moriah, Jessica, Christi, Desirae, and Kanesha for the last week of care, and caretaker, Susan Goeringer for the last several years of care.
Send all flowers, chocolates, homemade goods, or treats to Patti Wisler at 4221 W. Nobel Rd, Stillwater, OK 74075. Please send any monetary donations to St. Jude, Wounded Warrior, or Birthright.
