Mary Ruth Clapp Dean passed away at 5:00am at her home in Perkins on Sunday, August 5, 2018 surrounded by her family. Arrangements are under the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 8, at 10:00am at the First Baptist Church in Perkins. Interment will be private. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 7, from 9:00am to 8:00pm.
Mary Ruth was born to Earl I. and Mattie A. (Deloach) Clapp on April 5, 1931 in Glencoe, Oklahoma. Mary attended Glencoe schools and married John Franklin Dean on December 31, 1948.
Mary and John settled in Perkins, Oklahoma and raised their six daughters.
Mary and John owned the Central Garage and Napa Auto Parts in Perkins, Oklahoma. Mary received her Real Estate License and worked for Gene Boyer Real Estate Agency. She retired from OSU Library.
Mary loved helping others and baking amazing pies and cakes for family and friends. She donated many corn cozies to Wings of Hope. Mary also touched the lives of many with the pillows that she made.
Mary will be remembered for her dedication to her family and her friends. She never met a stranger she didn’t like. She taught her children how to be strong loving women and not to judge others, but be loving and kind to all.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Alice Knight and Vera Wallace; brother, Herb Clapp; great grandsons, Gage Kucko and Bennett Collum.
She is survived by a step-mother, Dorothy Downey; sister, Donna and husband Dwight Frye of Dallas, Texas; her daughter, Kathy Baker and her children John Porter and wife Becky in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Angie Freeny and husband Duane and Katy Baker all of Stillwater; daughter, Karen Campbell and husband Mike of Perkins, Oklahoma, and her children Tara Kucko and husband Chad of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Shane Frazier and wife Lora of Perkins, Oklahoma, and Justin and wife Kim of Lawrence, Kansas; daughter, Barbara Collum and husband Randy, and her children Brad and wife Emily, Dusty and wife Christa all of Perkins, Oklahoma, and Jase and wife Jessica of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter, Debbie Lightfoot and husband Ron, and her children Ronnie Jo and wife Erica of Edmond, Oklahoma, and LaTisha Lightfoot and husband Shane Ownbey of Perkins, Oklahoma; daughter Judi Dean; and daughter, Kim and husband Todd Swearingen. Also 26 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and one great great grandchild.
