Maud Murphree Jones

Maud Murphree Mayfield Jones, 100 years old, died August 30th, 2006, at the home of her daughter in Stillwater, OK. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 5th at 1:30 p.m. at the Putnam City United Methodist Church, 5819 N.W. 41st St., Oklahoma City, OK.
Maud was born January 6, 1906 in Alma, Ark., to William West Mayfield and Meta Carothers Mayfield. She grew up in Lindsay and Pauls Valley, OK. and earned a B.S. degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1932. She was married to Onnie R. Jones on October 6, 1934. They made their home in Oklahoma City and Bethany since 1946. She was a schoolteacher and also helped her husband establish Kleen Products, Inc., manufacturer of Joes Handcleaner. She retired from Putnam City Public Schools in 1961 and remained as a partner in Kleen Products until 1999. In 1996 she moved to Stillwater to be near her daughter.
A lifetime Methodist, the family joined Putnam City United Methodist Church in 1948. She was always active in her church, and was often a Sunday School Class teacher. Her friends in Fidelis Sunday School class were very dear to her. She was a charter member of the Bethany General Hospital auxiliary. Maud was an avid reader, had traveled to many countries, enjoyed playing bridge, and was known for encouraging her friends and family with caring notes and letters.
Maud was predeceased by her husband in 1974; two brothers, Marion Mayfield and Peel Mayfield; and two sisters, Louise James and Margaret Garrett.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jim and Joann Lunsford of Stillwater; two grandsons and their wives, Bob and Eugenia Lunsford, Colorado Springs, CO and Drs. Michael and Niki Lunsford, Springdale, AR; six great grandchildren, Jamie Sorensen, Shaun Lunsford, Allison Ocvirk, Kelsey Lunsford, Hannah Lunsford and Thomas Lunsford; and a dear sister, OBelle Neill of Gunnison, CO.
Memorial contributions may be made to Putnam City United Methodist Church or to Judith Karman Hospice, P.O. Box 818, Stillwater, OK 74076. The family has entrusted Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home with arrangements.
