Mildred Gerry Stokes, 96, of Glencoe passed from this life on April 20, 2013 in Cushing, OK. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and a celebration of Gerrys life will be held at 10:00 a.m on Wednesday, April 24 at the Church of Christ located at 413 N. Perry in Glencoe, OK. Public visitation will be held at Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater from 12:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m on Tuesday.
Mildred Geraldine Stokes was born on January 1, 1917 to Charles Henry and Emma (Reeves) Matlock in Oney, OK. She married Luster Stokes on October 25, 1932 in Stillwater, Ok. She was a member of the Glencoe Church of Christ. She served side by side with her minister husband for 41 years playing the piano and working with the youth were her specialties. The two of them served numerous churches in Oklahoma including Carney, Hallett, Olivet Christian Church, Mulhall, Forgan and Union Home Church. They also served in their ministry in Cheyenne Wells Colorado and Protection, Kansas.
Mildred is survived by her son Merle Stokes and wife Jean of Glencoe, a daughter Phyllis Chrisman of Kerrville, Tx, four grandchildren, Debbie Schreakenghost of Houston, Texas, Christy Cooper of Glencoe, Ok, Tim Stokes of Glencoe, Ok., and Tom Stokes of Houston, Texas, four great grandsons and eight great great grandchildren, one sister June Porter of Glencoe, Ok and a host of brothers and sisters in Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and brother Melvin Matlock, and sister Billie Ingram, also one great granddaughter Melody Stokes.
