Nina Lucy (Boyd) McLemore was born September 15th, 1915 to George and Leona Boyd in the IXL Community near Perkins, Oklahoma. She grew up and attended school in and near the IXL Community and then she and her family moved to the rural area outside of Perry, Oklahoma. While residing there, she married Sylvester (Sid) A. McLemore on July 24th, 1934. The family continued to live in the Perry area and then moved to Stillwater for the next 5 years. Nina and her family then moved to Claremore, Oklahoma where she worked as a nurse at the Claremore Health Center until her retirement in the mid-1980s. Nina and Sid moved back to Stillwater in 1990 and continued to live there for the remainder of their lives. Sid passed away in March of 2005.
Nina loved to garden and can the vegetables and fruits as well as sharing them with friends and neighbors. She loved flowers, especially yellow roses. Nina enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. It was important for her to feed anyone who stopped by for a visit. She always gave jelly and jams to everyone who came by her home. She composed and had copyrighted 12 gospel songs. Her favorite pastime was reminiscing about her childhood. She would talk about working in the cotton and hay fields, her neighbors and the entertainment that they enjoyed. She also loved her Lord with all of her heart. Nina attended the 1st Assembly of God Church in Stillwater.
Nina passed away on April 8th, 2006 at her daughter's home in Ripley, Oklahoma. She was 90 years old. She is survived by her 3 Sons, Eldon McLemore and wife Ann of Perry, Kansas, Darrell McLemore and wife Virginia of Avondale, Arizona, Verl (Dave) McLemore and wife Kaye of Stillwater; 1 Daughter, Vesta (McLemore) Axtell and husband Jim of Ripley, Oklahoma; 11 Grandchildren; 26 Great Grandchildren; 9 Great-Great Grandchildren; 3 Sister-in Laws, Bonnie McLemore of Seagoville, TX., Roxie McLemore of Enid, OK., Marcella McLemore of Oceanside, CA.; 1 Brother-in-Law, William A. (Bill) Smith; Several Nieces and Nephews; Other Relatives and a Host of Friends. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Her Husband, Sylvester (Sid) A. McLemore; 1 Brother, Leo G. Boyd and 2 Sisters, Lora (Boyd) Robinson and Esther Smith.
Services for Nina L. McLemore will be held on Tuesday, April 11th at 2:00 p.m. at the Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Aaron Cole will be officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Cemetery in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held at Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home on Monday, April 10th from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 11th from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
