Nina Marie Emmons-Turner

June 20, 1931 — December 13, 2011

Nina Marie Emmons, 80, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, went to be with the lord on December 13, 2011. She passed into heaven peacefully, surrounded by her family and Carter Hospice at the Sterling House assisted living home in Stillwater, Oklahoma after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Nina Marie Emmons was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma on June 20, 1931, to Harry and Julia Emmons. As a child, she grew up in the Ingalls, Oklahoma area and attended school at Council Bluff, Ripley, and Stillwater. After taking nursing courses, Nina worked at the Stillwater hospital in the surgical ward and later in the Oklahoma State University Veterinary Clinic. Nina attended the Southside Baptist Church in Stillwater where she taught Sunday school to the children. Nina also volunteered for the annual summer retreats at the Falls Creek Baptist Convention Center in Davis, Oklahoma, where she enjoyed cooking for the children. In 1981, Nina moved to Lakeside, Texas, becoming actively involved in the Lakeside Baptist Church and performed volunteer work with the Lakeside Fire Department. She returned to Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1995 to be closer to her oldest daughter, Gloria and family.
Nina worshipped at the First Baptist Church in Bartlesville where she met her companion and loving friend, A.C. Hudson. Together, they enjoyed attending church services and volunteering for religious functions, caring for one another until his death in 2010. In 2010, Nina moved back to Stillwater to be near her youngest daughter, Sherrie.
Nina is survived by her daughters Gloria Goheen, of Bartlesville, Sherrie Smith, of Stillwater, and sons David Smith of Miami, Florida, and Steven Smith of Del City, brothers Earl Emmons of Stillwater, Tommy Emmons of Hobbs, New Mexico and Rev. Roy Emmons of Tulsa. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and her cocker spaniel Lucky. Preceding her in death are her parents, brothers Rev. Marlin Emmons, John Emmons, Lloyd Emmons, Wilbur Emmons, sister Dorothy Clifton, Son in law Wayne Goheen and loving friend and companion A.C. Hudson.
Graveside services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater, OK and will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, December 16, 2011 in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society would be graciously appreciated.
