Opal Maxine Horton

Opal Maxine Horton, 89, longtime Stillwater resident and businesswoman passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022 in Tulsa. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.

Opal was born October 21, 1933 in Stillwater to Melvin Lester Stafford and Rosie Emeline (Busch) Stafford. She grew up in Stillwater where she made her home and raised her family. She graduated Coyle High School in 1952 and soon began making her way in the business world. She and Duane R. Horton were married in 1956. Together they owned and operated Triple A office supply for several years and then opened the E-Z Mini Storage that she and her son continued to operate after her husband’s passing. Opal continued going to the office to help with daily business until her health began to fail her. Working seemed to be a hobby and enjoyment for Opal, although she found time for gardening and a good shopping spree from time to time.

Survivors include her son, David Horton of Stillwater; two sisters, Sarah Barnes of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Barbara Courtright of Stillwater, Oklahoma; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 10 AM at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater with Charles Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
