Owen Dickerson (O.D.) Miller, 82, of Stillwater, OK went to his forever home to be with the Lord on April 3rd, 2025.
O.D. was born on July 12, 1942, in Oklahoma City, OK. He was the 4th child born to Harley and Helen (Dickerson) Miller. O.D. spent most of his life in Stillwater, OK and was in the class of 1960 at Stillwater High School.
O.D. enjoyed living in the country, being outdoors, tending his cattle, farming, checking in on family and friends, and the almost daily stops at Wal Mart or convenience stores to have a little chat with the locals. He enjoyed watching all sports on TV. He was passionate about wrestling. He wrestled in high school and found great joy in supporting his great grandsons, Hailen and Huxley Hiner, in their wrestling. He was a devoted fan and loved his OSU Cowboys.
O.D. had a big heart and was always willing to help family, friends, neighbors, and others. He was known for his smile that warmed the heart of all that saw it. It was known as the “Miller” smile, and he gifted that smile to all his children and grandchildren. As his grandchildren and great grandchildren came along you would often see a baby in his arms. Babies loved him and he was a natural with them. To say he was a strong man would diminish him. He was a rock! He lived a full life and we can only celebrate that we were able to share in some of it with him. He will forever be a part of us and will live on in each and every person that knew him. He was loved more than he knew and after such a full life he was ready to rest.
O.D. served his country as a U.S. Navel Reservist from 1960-1962. He then spent most of his adult life working as a lineman retiring after 27 years as a line crew chief with the city of Stillwater. The bonds with his crew and the other linemen continued long after his retirement. O.D. had a great love for cattle. Having a father who was head herdsman for 30 yrs at the OSU Dairy Barn and living there on the dairy, O.D. had a great fondness for cattle. He had a cow/calf operation that he enjoyed during retirement and up until the past couple of years.
O.D. married Lavina Sue (Thompson) on March 5th, 1989, in Orlando, OK. They celebrated 36 wonderful years of marriage. They enjoyed the quiet life of the farm, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. They enjoyed working on family genealogy and spent many years traveling around the country gathering information. They enjoyed going to Grand Lake where son, Todd and wife Shannon lived and relaxing by the lake.
O.D. is preceded in death by his parents, beloved son Owen Dewayne Miller, stepsons Craig Roberts and Wade Roberts; brother Harley Allen Miller; sister Bonita Petty; sister Sara Ann (Payne) Brooks.
He is survived by his wife, of the home, Lavina Sue Miller; daughter Tammy Souders and husband Larry; daughters Teresa Miller and Juliann Miller; stepson Todd Roberts and wife Shannon; brother Tommy Jack Miller and wife Barbara; sister-in-law Mickey Miller; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces whom he loved dearly.
Memorial services will be held at the Dighton-Marler Funeral Chapel, 5106 N. Washington, Stillwater, OK on Saturday, April 12th at 2:00 pm with Harley Petty officiating. He will be buried at the McGuire Cemetery, Lucien Noble County, OK at a private family interment at a later date.
