Peggy Ella (Trook) Pickens, 81, passed away Wednesday, November 10 in Stillwater, OK. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 14, from 3-5pm at Dighton Marler Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 15 at 1 PM at Sunnybrook Christian Church. Interment will follow at Paradise Cemetery by Coyle, Oklahoma. Dighton Marler Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
Peggy was born September 12, 1940, south of Canton, OK to John and Opal (Herndon) Trook. She was the little sister to Jo Ann and big sister to Larry. She grew up in Canton, OK. She learned to work hard at an early age. She worked at the hardware store in Canton her early teen years.
She fell in love with her cowboy, Ernie Pickens and they married on October 6, 1956, in Canton, OK. They were married for 64 years before Ernie passed away in April 2021. They moved to Oklahoma City where she worked in a little diner, took in ironing to help pay the bills as they started their family. In 1960, they moved to Stillwater, Ok to work for J B Perky Ranch which became the Downey ID Ranch. Peggy went to work outside the home in the late 60s. Peggy worked at the Okla. Dept. of Career Tech retiring in 1979 to join Ernie selling real estate full time. She and Ernie operated their company for many years. In the late 1980’s, she moved over to Fisher Provence Real Estate. She helped run Pickens Auction Company. Peggy and Shelley started The Tag Ladies Estate and Liquidation Sales in 2006.
Even working full-time and helping Ernie, she always prepared a hot breakfast and a big supper that usually included a big cast iron skillet of gravy. She was always organized and was known for her lists of things that needed to be done. Even as her disease progressed, she had “lists”. She and Ernie traveled many miles supporting the kids and grandkids in their activities from livestock shows, speech and judging contest, sports. They rarely missed an event. Peggy (Nanny) always had time for sleepovers, sewing costumes, baking, adventures, and making memories with her grandkids. Peggy was active in church, community, and school organizations. Her beautiful smile will be missed. She was a member of Sunnybrook Christian Church.
Peggy is survived by her children and spouses; Brent and Sharyl, Bret and Stephanie, Shelley and Sammie, Gregg and Rachel; Her grandchildren, Samantha Dawson and Dallas Camren, Katie and Paul Harless, Heath and Megan Pickens, Chad and Kim Pickens, Westin and Geno Younger, Cassie Pickens, Justin and Ally Pickens, Colt Pickens, Ella Pickens, Will and Tori Pickens, Pete Pickens, Jaxon Pickens, Riva Pickens; Her great grandchildren, Camden, Judah, Dayton, Elise, Gideon and 2 on the way. She is also survived by her loving brother and sister-in-law Larry and Melanie Trook; Sister, Jo Ann; Brother-in-law, Harold Pickens, Emitt Pickens; Sisters-in-laws, Phoebe Barrick and Phyllis Herod; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and treasured friends.
She is predeceased by her loving and devoted husband Ernie, her parents, grandchildren Shane, Rachel, Caroline and nephew Gary Dale Hoskins.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Karman Legacy Hospice for their care and compassion for their mom. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored for donations to Karman Legacy Hospice.
