Peggy Prickett

February 5, 1926 — January 4, 2025

Stillwater, Oklahoma

Peggy Ruth (Potts) Prickett, 98, passed away on January 4, 2025, in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Peggy was born to Fred and Rachel Potts on February 5, 1926, in Terlton, Oklahoma. She was the fourth of 11 children and cherished her childhood on the family farm, where they grew crops like sorghum and peanuts to trade for essentials.

Peggy first married Lawton Brightwell then later, on June 29, 1946, she married Charles Prickett, and the couple made their home in Mehan, Oklahoma, later settling in Morrison, Oklahoma. Peggy dedicated her early years to raising her children and managing the household. When her youngest children began school, she worked for the Noble County Community Action Program before becoming the beloved head cook at the OSU Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity house, known for her exceptional "from scratch" cooking.

In 1978, Peggy and Charlie relocated to Cleveland, Oklahoma. Soon after, she became the kitchen supervisor at Conner Correctional Center, where she worked until her retirement. Later, Peggy moved to Stillwater, spending several years there before transitioning to Perry Nursing Home during the global pandemic. In June 2021, she moved to Renaissance Assisted Living in Stillwater.

Peggy had a deep love for quilt making, cooking, soapmaking, and collecting antiques, including depression glassware and vintage kitchen tools. Her cooking was legendary—whether it was chicken and noodles, fried pies, or homemade candy, Peggy’s meals brought comfort and joy to all who gathered around her table. She had a remarkable ability to create delicious dishes with minimal ingredients and never hesitated to share her meals with anyone in need.

Peggy is survived by her brother, Jerry Potts; her children: Lawton Brightwell (Judy) of Stillwater, Janice Dewell (Dave) of Tulsa, Kent Prickett (Carol) of Stillwater, Cindy Frame (Tony) of Perkins, and Tammy Bevel (Mark) of Meridian, Idaho; 28 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Rachel Potts; her husband, Charles Prickett; her siblings: Gene Potts, Roy Potts, June Bell, Paul Potts, Bill Potts, Annabelle Baker, Mary Baker, Betsy Muro, and Vesta Potts; her daughters, Linda Cockrell and Sharla LaFollette; her son-in-law, Gary LaFollette; and grandchildren, Taz LaFollette, Kris LaFollette, and Misty Cockrell.
