Pete Marvin Schultz, 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, August 9, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Pete was born August 25, 1928, to Peter A. and Katherine Schultz, the youngest of 12, at his family home/farm near Billings, Oklahoma, where he lived much of his life and where he passed away.
He grew up with his older brother, Elbert, on the family-owned farm. He lost his father when he was 4-months old to a wagon/car accident. He was raised by his mother and brother Elbert who taught him everything about farming. As a young man he worked with his brother on the farm, learning how to run their Model D John Deere tractor and Model T Truck. When Pete’s brother was drafted into the Army, he, along with his nephew Melvin (who was raised like a brother) took over taking care of the farm., while also continuing to go to school. They took turns when problems arose needing one to stay home.
This continued until his brother returned home from the army, He eventually made the decision to stop school and help keep the farming running.
Pete helped a neighbor with running a tractor and bundle wagon going around to cut the thrashings. He also did a lot of trapping and sold furs for extra spending money. He loved to hunt and fish when he could find time.
For a short time, Pete and his mother lived six miles south of Billings at “Albright” Place. While living there, he drove the Billings school bus, and after his farm work was done, would plow fields for neighbors.
In 1949, Pete attended an Assembly of God revival, and gave his life to the Lord He was baptized in CCC Lake in Perry the net day. After a few years, Pete and his mother returned to the home place and Pete added milking 37 cows to his list of chores. He separated the milk and sold it to Paradise Ice Cream in Enid. Later he added running a milk route for Gold Spot in Enid. He would also eventually go to work in the oilfield and drove a tank truck hauling oil and salt water.
In 1955, at the Oakdale Country School northwest of Perry, he would meet the most beautiful and wonderful girl in the world at a fundraiser, Lucille Steichen. He said when he saw her, God told him she was the one. He would have her walk a cake walk for him and win the cake. Even though they came from different paths and had a few obstacles, they would date and on June 1, 1957, they were married.
They lived in Enid for a time driving a chicken truck for his brother-in-law Willard Parker. In November 1958 they were blessed with their son Marvin Schultz. In October of ’61, they were blessed with daughter Rhonda Schultz.
Some of the other jobs Pete had through the years would be Stackhouse Athletic Factory, the Oklahoma State Highway Department, helped put in I-35, and he would run Mistletoe Express in Perry 1964-1974, with the help of his wife Lucille.
Pete would live and farm a few other farms before buying a large farm northwest of Stillwater by Lake McMurtry. He had a herd of over 105 cattle, farmed wheat, oats, alfalfa, prairie hay and have a huge vegetable garden. He would work Mistletoe by day and farm by night with Lucille always by his side.
In 1991, Pete’s brother Elbert passed, leaving the family farm near Billings to Pete. He sold his Stillwater farm and in 1992, moved back to the place he was born and stayed for his remaining years, farming with the help of his son.
Pete’s faith has always been a priority in his life. There were many times through the years when Pete said he wouldn’t be alive if God hadn’t stepped in. He would share and teach his faith to his children and many grandkids, great grandkids, nieces and nephews.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Walter, Harry, Elbert, Lewis, Lester and Irvin; sisters: Irene, Magdalena, Mable, Vivian and Ruby; and wife Lucille.
He is survived by son Marvin Schultz, and wife Sherry; daughter Rhonda Schultz;
grandchildren: Staci Smith and husband Jesse, Jennifer Copes and husband Jeff, Renea Schultz, Justin Lucas and wife Terri, Tiffany Schultz, Kelby Schultz, Corbin Schultz, Desemend Schultz; and 17 great grandchildren.
