Phillip Otis Rush

Phillip Otis Rush, 71, of Ripley passed peacefully from this life on March 14, 2014 with his family by his side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater and a graveside service celebrating his life will be held at 10am on Monday, March 17 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater. Public visitation was held from 12pm -6pm on Sunday, March 16 at the funeral home.
Phillip was born on January 24, 1943 in Stillwater, OK to Dave and Oma (Clark) Rush. He was raised and attended schools in the Tryon area, graduating from Perkins-Tryon High School. Following his graduation, Phillip was employed as a leather worker in Guthrie, Cushing, and Chandler, before being hired as an assembly line worker at Swan Rubber Company in Stillwater, a job he enjoyed for 14 years. In 1976, he married the love of his life and his wife of 37 years, Anita Sue Gant. Phillip and Anita had two wonderful sons, Jason and Shawn. He accepted a position at Mercury Marine in Stillwater and spent 22 years working the assembly line as a belt sander.
Phillip retired from Mercury Marine in June of 2005. After retiring, he spent his time clearing his pasture, remodeling his home, and spoiling his grandson. He also enjoyed gardening, painting, canning, baking his famous pecan pie, and making hundreds of bottles of his delicious homemade salsa. He thought that life didnt get much better than riding his horse across his pasture, until he discovered the convenience of riding a four wheeler, which soon became a favorite hobby. He also enjoyed watching WWE wrestling on TV with his wife Anita, a hobby that he may have enjoyed substantially more than she did. He was also an honorary member of the Perkins Round-up Club and participated in the annual Baton Race.
Phillip was a simple man who was as stubborn as he was generous. Phillip was a hard worker who believed that sickness or an injury was never an excuse to miss a day of work. He was a family man who always had his family as his top priority. He never missed a chance to attend one of his sons athletic activities and was their biggest fan and supporter from middle school all the way through college. He enjoyed having his family over to his home and he loved talking with his brother and sisters. Phillip Rush was a loving husband, a dedicated father, a proud grandfather, a loyal employee, and a trusted friend who will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Dave and Oma Clark. Two sisters: Genieve Hall and Bertie Craycraft. An aunt, Ota Clark. He is survived by his best friend and wife Anita Rush, of the home. Two sons: Jason Rush and wife Shallyn, of Tulsa, OK and Shawn Rush and wife Erin, of Norwalk, IA. A grandson, Pierson Rush of Tulsa. A brother, J.B. Rush of Perkins, OK. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
