Pauline Polly Josephine Hinrichs Puntam was born in Stillwater OK on April 7 1926 to Henry and Augusta Hinrichs. She attended Stillwater Public Schools, and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1944. Following graduation, she attended Oklahoma A&M College from 1944 to 1946.
Because of the early death of her parents, it was necessary for her to work part time while going to school. She went to school in the morning and worked afternoons for the City of Stillwater Water and Light Department. In the summer of 1946, she quit college to begin working full time.
Polly worked a year in California for the Office of Naval Research and then returned to Stillwater to work for the Dean of Agriculture at Oklahoma State University. Later she was employed by the Soil Conservation Service of the United States Department of Agriculture. In 1965, she transferred to the Albuquerque, NM office of the Soil Conservation Service where she met her husband, Billy Putnam.
Billy and Polly Putnam married March 4, 1966. Following their marriage, Billys employment with the Soil Conservation Service took the couple to Richmond, VA; San Juan PR; Storres, CT; Bismarck ND and Washington DC.
Polly continued to work for a few years but eventually became a full time homemaker.
In 1981, following Billys retirement from the government, the couple moved to Stillwater to establish their retirement home.
Polly had many, many friends and enjoyed playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and going to the casino.
Polly was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years Billy, her parents, siblings Frank Hinrichs, Herman Hinrichs, Ernest Hinrichs and Catherine (Kitty) Hinrichs Jacob. She is survived by a step daughter Claudia Lynch of Denton and many nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces.
