Raymond Barton Logan, aged 95, passed away on January 04, 2011 at Linwood Village in Cushing, Oklahoma.
Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK and will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 10, 2010 in the First Presbyterian Church, Cushing, OK with Reverend Tom Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the New Zion Cemetery, Cushing, OK.
Raymond B. Logan was born on July 13, 1915 in Yanush, Oklahoma to the late Reverend William Francis Logan and Laura Potts Logan. He later moved to and was educated in nearby Albion, Oklahoma. He was the eldest child in a bustling household of 12 children.
Raymond was a decorated World War II veteran, entering into service on January 08, 1942. He was a member of Company A, 127th Infantry Regiment, 32nd infantry division. He ascended to the rank of Tech Sgt and served admirably in combat of the Asiatic-Pacific campaign, seeing action in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. His decorations and citations include the Distinguished Unit Badge, World War II Victory Medal and Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and Ribbon with 3 Bronze Service Stars, American Campaign Medal and Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on March 08, 1946.
Following the war, Raymond attended Oklahoma State University, Technical and Agricultural College in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He later taught at that institution before joining the Faculty/Staff. While in Okmulgee and during his employment at OSU-Tech, he met a beautiful young nurse, Mary Wilson Chedester, who was also employed at OSU-Tech. Raymond and Mary were married in 1974. After retirement, Mary and Raymond relocated to Albion, Oklahoma, where they lived for more than 20 years. They moved to Cushing, Oklahoma in 1993.
Raymond was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Cushing. He was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation and he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and riding his many horses. He was an active member of the Cushing Senior Citizens Center and was a drummer in their kitchen band traveling throughout the state entertaining many. Raymond was also a published poet, dancer, and loving husband, brother, and Uncle.
He is survived by two step-children, Dani Lou Frith (San Antonio, TX) and Dr. Melvin DeGraw (McMinnville, OR), one brother, William Logan (Poteau, OK), three sisters, Glenna Creasy (Toledo, OR), Eva Lanning (McAlester, OK), and Iva Tubbs (Oklahoma City, OK). He is also survived by a great nephew, Dr. Richard L. Benton (Louisville, KY) and many, many dear nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, five sisters, and his beloved wife Mary.
