Richard Junior Cash, a former resident of Ripley, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2011 in the Claremore Regional Hospital at the age of 84 years.
Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater, OK and will be held in the Chapel of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater (5106 N. Washington) at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 22, 2011. Burial will follow in Oakpark Cemetery, Chandler, OK at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Junior was born on August 1, 1926 in Cushing, OK and was reared and educated in the Cushing and Ripley area. He attended school mostly in Ripley and briefly in Cushing before entering into the United States Navy on October 30, 1944. He proudly served in the Navy during WW II before receiving his honorary discharge on July 23, 1946. Junior then returned to the Cushing and Drumright area where he began working in the oilfield. Shortly there after, Junior purchased his first farm, which was located west of Ripley, and began his lifelong love of raising livestock and farming various crops. Though most people would consider farming a full time job, Junior also worked away from the farm. He continued working in the oilfield for several years and the best of those years were spent with Appleton Oil Company working as a pumper. Beginning in 1971, Junior began working for Oklahoma State University with the Department of Agronomy. He retired from there as a Senior Agriculturalist in 1990 following 19 years of service and returned to his farm.
On September 8, 1951, Junior was united in marriage to Noralee Alice Hinkle in Cushing, OK and to this union three sons, Ron, Terry, and Tim, were born. Noralee passed away on December 29, 2010.
Junior had been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ripley for over 47 years where he taught Sunday school and served on the church board. He was a member of the Ripley Lions Club and served on the Ripley School Board for 10 years. Juniors greatest passion was raising quarter horses. He had been a longtime member of the AQHA, loved competing in Cutting Horse contests, and enjoyed participating in various trail riding clubs.
Juniors family will remember him as a man that was a devoted husband and father; a man that cherished every minute he could spend with his grandchildren; and a man that would drop everything he was doing to help his neighbors and friends that were in need.
Survivors include his three sons, Ron Cash and his wife Terry of Grove, OK; Terry Cash and his wife Cathy of Pauls Valley, OK, and Tim Cash of Stillwater, OK; one sister, Eithel Hope and her husband Glen R. of Stillwater, OK; six grandchildren, Jared Cash, Jordan Cash, Matthew Cash, Rachel Watson, Krista Wheeler, and Libby Cash; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Cash and Rylie Cash; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife Noralee, Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Fornum O.D. Cash and Nancy Louise (McJimsey) Cash, and one sister, Vera Cockrell.
