After a courageous battle with Parkinsons Plus, Rodney Lee Cottongim went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 4, 2015. Arrangements are under the care of Palmer Maler Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 9 at 2:00pm at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel.
Rod was born on October 26, 1949, to Wilhite and Ruth Imogene Jeanie (Hueston)Cottongim in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1967. He went on to Oklahoma State University and graduated with a bachelors degree.
Rod joined the Army National Guard in 1969 and received an honorable discharge in 1977.
He married Cheri Ann Bewely in Stillwater in December of 1967. To that union was born two children, Amy Lea Cottongim Huska and George William Cottongim.
He married Charmaine Westfall on March 11, 1978, in Enid, Oklahoma. He worked in the oilfield supply business, which lead them to live in several states but returned back home to Stillwater.
Rod worked at OSU in the Physical Plant in Preventative Maintenance Department from 1997 until he retired in 2012.
Rod loved music and had a great voice. He loved all genres of music, but was probably the most avid Beatles fan. He knew every word to every song and often would break out into song when an event or experience reminded him of a certain song.
Rod had a great talent and love in restoring cars, particularly his award-winning 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air called Gypsy.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, parents, and his son, George William.
He is survived by his wife, Charmaine. daughter, Amy Lea Huska (Scott); three granddaughters, Emily DeSomma (Cody), Callie Kate Huska, Elizabeth Huska; and one grandson, Conner Vincent DeSomma; brother, Gary Cottongim; sisters Sharen Prevatte, Gayle Robbins (Tommy), and Debbie Lane (Gary), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and car club buddies.
